Different Phases of Life

It was great to see so much goodwill arising from last month’s Meaningful Moments/Linked in posting when I focussed on all the things I have achieved in the last 20 years. Many coaches seem to begin their coaching from a difficult situation such as burn out and I suppose I did too, knowing that it was only going to be a matter of time before I was made redundant. Opportunities often arise out of the most unusual circumstances.

At a lunch recently, one of my colleagues from 42 years ago, said when he was overwhelmed, a piece of advice I gave him helped him to adapt to his new job in the City. I suppose making a difference in other people’s lives, even if you don’t know you are doing it, is the most important thing.

I have achieved a certain age which, when my father achieved it and was still working, I remember being proud of him. Although I am still going strong, my business is slowing down, so I am coaching myself over the next few months about what next. I am still looking for opportunities but income, profits and having a successful business does not need to be important anymore.

Until recently I have always charged for both my coaching and supervision of coaches as I believed clients only valued the support if they paid for it. This is still the case, but many people don’t have the money if the first place. In the past few weeks, I have helped a young chap get his first job and I am helping a new coach attain her qualifications. I am getting a real buzz out of this so maybe there are other people out there I can help who would not normally get the opportunity?

So, after speaking to my supervisor and a number of trusted friends, I am refreshing my thoughts and celebrating all the things I have including family, friends, and financial security. The most important thing at any age is health where I don’t like talking about and with saying that I have been very fortunate. I am a member of two walking groups with walkers of a similar age to me who haven’t been so lucky, so I should be very grateful for my good fortune. We all go through different phases of life, and it is how we adapt to them which is important. Whatever happens over the next few months I will still need a sense of purpose and be relevant in whatever comes my way and whatever I do.

Hopefully you can see from the above that everybody needs a coach at some stage in their career/life/retirement. If anybody has any ideas, contacts or thoughts and it doesn’t need to be about money please get in touch with neil@nvwsolutions.co.uk
