How PRISM Brain Mapping has been the foundation stone for my coaching

I began my coaching career 8 years ago, and I have found the Prism Profile reports to be of enormous benefit to my career coachees. I became accredited at that time to ensure I gave the right feedback to my clients.

Neuroscience has developed enormously over recent years. The reports are now 45 pages instead of 15, and are focused on behavioural preferences that relate to personal relationships and work, and include feedback on emotional intelligence and resilience too. Most major Neuroscience discoveries have been made in the last two decades, and it is now proven that the brain is remarkably elastic in terms of its capacity for change. PRISM focuses, not only on the brain’s functional architecture, but also on how the neural networks interact with brain chemicals such as glutamate, dopamine, noradrenaline, serotonin, testosterone and oestrogen to create behaviour. It is these very same Neuroscientific discoveries that have facilitated the development of PRISM Brain Mapping.

PRISM Brain Mapping is a highly effective way of coaching using neuroscience, as it provides insights about how people think, feel and do things. To facilitate understanding, PRISM uses colours to illustrate the behaviour preferences. Although the PRISM model is a metaphor for brain functioning, the PRISM maps represent the dynamic interaction that takes place within the brain and is based on the principle that no one part of the brain does solely one thing and no one part of the brain acts alone. All our thoughts, emotions and actions are the results of many parts of the brain acting together.

Greater self awareness is a great place to start with coaching, particularly when some coachees haven’t got a clue where to start with their career planning. Sometimes it shows that they are strong on, say innovation, when they hadn’t really considered it to be one of their strengths at work. Often there are one or two aspects that don’t make total sense at the intake session, which come out later in the coaching programme. These insights can make a real difference to people’s choice of career.

Once the coachee really understands PRISM, they can use this knowledge to identify other people’s strengths and how to communicate better to certain types of people. This can help at interviews and how to deal with their future line manager.

I am delighted that I found PRISM brain mapping early in my coaching career, and I know it has made a great difference to many of my coachees over the last 8 years. Visit www.prismbrainmapping.com to read more about PRISM.
