Are you stuck in a rut? Coaching could be the answer

Many people are unhappy in their existing job. Are you?

Do you have a boss who undermines you?Has the organisation changed so much and that you no longer believe in it?Are you just fed up with continuously being in the same role and don’t feel you make a difference?Logically, many would say now isn’t the right time to be changing job due the present economic climate. They may be right, however it could be the right time to explore what you really want to do and establish a plan for the future.

Coaching is about seeing what is good in your work life as well as what is bad. Many people under-estimate what their existing job gives them (friendship, security, income, flexibility etc.) and take too many things for granted.

Having a chance to reflect is often all that is needed to see the positives, make one or two behavioural changes and adopt a different mindset. This allows you to start enjoying your job again without taking the risk of changing employers.

It may be that the change needs to be made outside of the workplace. Being more proactive with hobbies or doing some charity work can be very rewarding, whilst maintaining the security of your job.

Coaching can really establish what is going on. It could lead to a change but “the grass is not always greener on the other side”. If you do decide a change is required it is important to make the right choice.

Ideally you need to allow two or three months to go through the coaching process. After all, we could be talking about the next twenty years of employment! Most important, is being guided by a trained, detached professional in total confidence to allow you to make the right choices.

If you are unhappy in your job it is definitely worth exploring the reasons why.

  • The fact we spend so many hours working is all the more reason to enjoy what we do.
  • Of course job security is important. We all need to earn money but we do have choices, even in difficult times.
  • The coaching process helps establish what you want and identifies the action you need to take in order to get there.
  • Don’t be stuck in a rut. Explore your opportunities and start taking control of your life.
